The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
