The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the sun and its light 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
