The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
