Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
