The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 And the House frequented, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
