The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
