[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 They shall know tomorrow whichsoever is a liar insolent. 26 Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Salih (Saleh)], and be patient! 27 Tell them that the water is to be apportioned between them (and her); and every turn of drinking will be fixed (for each)." 28 But they called their comrade and he took (a sword) and killed (her). 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Verily, We sent against them a single Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.), and they became like the dry stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The folk of Lot rejected warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
