He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
