The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 So let man consider of what he was created. 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the rotating heavens 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently, 17
