Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
