Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Except Iblis (Satan); he refused to be among those who prostrated. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
