The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
