Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
