The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
