The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And pollution shun. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
