EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'? 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance? 32 Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Have they been created from nothing or are they themselves their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and earth? Nay, but they have not sure faith. 36 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? 37 Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof. 38 Hath He daughters and ye sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him! 43 If they should see a segment falling from the sky, they would say: "It is only a massive cloud." 44 Leave them then till they meet that day of theirs wherein they shall be made to swoon (with terror): 45 the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped. 46 Truly, for those who do wrong there is a punishment besides that, though most of them do not know it. 47 And so, await in patience thy Sustainer's judgment, for thou art well within Our sight. And extol thy Sustainer's limitless glory and praise whenever thou risest up, 48 And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars. 49
True are the words of God the Almighty.
