The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and waters gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
