The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
