The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ THEY WILL ASK thee about the spoils of war. Say: "All spoils of war belong to God and the Apostle." Remain, then, conscious of God, and keep alive the bonds of brotherhood among yourselves, and pay heed unto God and His Apostle, if you are [truly] believers! 1 Believers are only they whose hearts tremble with awe whenever God is mentioned, and whose faith is strengthened whenever His messages are conveyed unto them, and who in their Sustainer place their trust 2 The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. 3 Such are the true believers. Their reward from their Lord will be high ranks, forgiveness, and a generous provision. 4 [It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling, 5 They disputed with you about the truth after that had become evident, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open. 6 And when God promised you one of the two parties should be yours, and you were wishing that the one not accoutred should be yours; but God was desiring to verify the truth by His words, and to cut off the unbelievers to the last remnant, 7 In order that He may prove the truth and disprove falsehood, even if the criminals get annoyed. 8 When you were calling upon your Lord for succour, and He answered you, 'I shall reinforce you with a thousand angels riding behind you.' 9 God wrought this not, save as good tidings and that your hearts thereby might be at rest; help comes only from God; surely God is All-mighty, All-wise. 10
