Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou folded in garments! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
