The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the shining star -- 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 this (Qur'an) is surely a decisive Word, 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 and so am I: 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
