He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
