He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
