The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
