The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
