The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
