The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
