The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
