The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
