The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
