The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
