He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
