Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
