Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
