۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
