A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat. 33 We have laid out gardens of dates and grapes upon it, and made springs of water flow, 34 so that they may eat of the fruit thereof, though it was not their hands that made it. Will they not, then, be grateful? 35 Holy is He who created all things in pairs; of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and other things which they do not know. 36 And a Sign for them is the Night: We withdraw therefrom the Day, and behold they are plunged in darkness; 37 The sun, too, follows its determined course laid down for it by the Almighty, the All Knowing. 38 We have appointed stages for the moon till it returns in the shape of a dry old branch of palm-tree. 39 It is not for the sun to catch up with the moon, nor does the night surpass the day; and each one of them floats in its orbit. 40 Another Sign for them is that We carried all their offspring in the laden vessel 41 And We made similar vessels for them to ride. 42 If it were Our Will, We could drown them: then would there be no helper (to hear their cry), nor could they be delivered, 43 Unless it be a mercy from Us, and as an enjoyment for a while. 44 And when it is said unto them: fear that which is before you and that which is behind you, that haply ye may find mercy, they withdraw. 45 And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away. 46 And when it is said unto them: expend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: shall we feed those whom God Himself would have fed, if He listed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest. 47 They say: “When will this threat (of Resurrection) come to pass? Tell us if indeed you are truthful.” 48 They await only but a single Saihah (shout, etc.), which will seize them while they are disputing! 49 and so [sudden will be their end that] no testament will they be able to make, - nor to their own people will they return! 50
