The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of delight; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
