The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. 10
