The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
