The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
