The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
