Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
