The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
