Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
