The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
