Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
