Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
