The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
