When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside-down and showered on them lumps of baked clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
