The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
